Themis is an automated programming judge developed by the University of Groningen. It uses a flexible judging system to automatically run and evaluate student code written in various programming languages. The iterative process of submission, assessment, adjustment, and resubmission, gives students the opportunity to detect mistakes early in the learning process and make adjustments accordingly. Compared to the traditional approach of submitting an assignment once and receiving feedback once, this iterative approach ensures that each student has a chance to complete the entire assignment while learning from the Themis-provided feedback. Themis is the successor of Justitia, which was originally developed by Twan van Laarhoven. Development of Themis started in 2016 as a set of bachelor and master theses. Since 2022, the UG Digital Lab team has continued the development and maintenance of Themis.
